Landscaping For Life |
| So, your realtor found the perfect lot, your
architect has worked his magic, and you've hired a reputable builder. Your
Lowcountry dream is on its way to becoming reality. But, wait - there's
one more expert you need to bring on board. A landscape contractor. Here
in the beautiful, temperate Lowcountry, where the line between indoor and
outdoor living is so often blurred, the environment surrounding your home
can be just as crucial to your happiness as the home itself. Perhaps your personal taste in yards runs toward the formal and symmetrical. Or maybe you prefer the charming dishevelment of a cottage-style garden. Do you need a lot of open space where the kids can play? Do you yearn for a stone fountain where you can sit quietly and reflect? Maybe you dream of strolling beneath a shady arbor of twisting vines... Whatever your personal style, whatever your family's needs, landscape design. It |

designer sooner rather than later. Brad Hill, a licensed landscape
architect and owner of BPG Landscaping & Design in Beaufort says, "We get
contacted at all stages of the construction process, but we recommend we
get involved prior to start of construction so there is coordination
between the landscape architect, the architect or builder, and the
homeowner." There are several unique issues a landscape designer must address when designing for a Lowcountry home.
|
According to Brad Hill, one of those issues is soil. "We have mostly sandy
soil, so we try and add soil amendments to every plant." Hill continues, "Deer can also be an issue. And with salt water intrusion into our aquifer, irrigation is going to be an issue to deal with in the near future." The website for Ocean Woods Landscaping on Hilton Head features a list of other concerns the landscaper must address: "Here in the coastal Lowcountry, the often extreme weather conditions present special challenges. Heat stress, mildew, fungus, insect, pests and plant diseases all are part of the dynamic, changing ecosystem that can wreak havoc with turf, shrubs and trees." In short, you may have a green thumb, but expert advice is needed! Full-service companies like BPG and |
