Hagan was
established early on. The result of their partnership is a home so spectacular
it has been featured in both Architectural Digest and A Decade of Art and
Architecture: 1992 – 2002. Of course, any home
on Spring Island, no matter how splendid, is secondary to the island
itself. Located five miles from any highway, one third of Spring’s 3,000
lush acres is a dedicated nature preserve. Most homes here are invisible
both from the roadways and from their neighbors, ensuring that nothing
intrudes on the primacy of the island’s woods, views and tranquility.

The two-fold challenge for
architect Mark P. Finlay was to create a home that would blend
harmoniously with the lush growth and innate tranquility of bucolic Spring
Island, SC, while nodding to the architecture of the old South without
actually reproducing it. Finlay teamed up with Victoria Hagan, a like-minded interior designer who his shared crisp, clean aesthetic, as well as his affinity for fine craftsmanship and elegantly subtle materials.
