Callawassie
Island is a private, gated, residential golf and tennis club
community conveniently situated midway between the historic city of
Beaufort and Hilton Head Island. The island is owned and governed by
its property owners, who support the developers’ original philosophy
of preserving the island’s historical heritage and pristine natural
surroundings.
With its 11 miles of shoreline, this 880-acre sea
island sits in the heart of the Colleton River marshlands, made famous
in Pat Conroy’s book and the film, “The Prince of Tides.” Residents
here experience a rich relationship with nature, while surrounded by
convivial neighbors and friends. The golf cart is the vehicle of
choice for many, and the “Callawassie Island Wave,” shared between
neighbors passing on tree-lined lanes, is a long-standing tradition. In
designing the Island’s award winning championship 27-hole golf course,
Tom Fazio took advantage of the island’s natural beauty to create
visual drama and superb play. Hardwood stands of live oak and
magnolia, as well as ponds and marshland come into play on most
holes. The course offers challenges for every skill level.
Along
with golfers, there is a large tennis community on Callawassie. The
tennis center includes six HarTru courts, and a pavilion with a pro
shop. From their spot on the majestic Colleton River, Callawassie
residents also enjoy great fishing, shrimping, boating, and of course,
sunset-viewing.

Spring
Island Neither a resort nor a time share, Spring Island is a
beautiful private community for discerning people looking to escape
the hustle of civilization. Located five miles from the highway, the
island is connected to the mainland by a causeway. There’s no traffic
noise; mostly just the songs of birds and wind. One-third of the
island’s 3,000 acres is dedicated as a nature preserve, ens uring that
its untamed beauty will endure. Only about 400 families make their
home on Spring Island, so their footprint is light on the land.Nature lovers tend to be a relaxed, friendly bunch, so the small
community on Spring Island is a harmonious one.
Residents delight in a variety of activities, both physical and
intellectual. Old Tabby Links golf course, designed by Arnold Palmer,
is widely considered one of the finest in the country. As for arts and
culture, the island’s artist-in residence program, guest lecturers,
and on-site naturalists provide an excellent forum for fun, learning
and discussion, making Spring Island much livelier than your average
retreat.
In short, there’s simply nothing average about Spring Island. |
